Niels ullner
Niels Ullner is an important danish cellist and pedagogue.
Born 1956 in Copenhagen he from a young age received lessons in piano, cello and music theory.
His cello teachers were primarily Asger Lund Christiansen and Pierre Fournier. He also participated in masterclasses with for instance William Pleeth and Mstislav Rostropovitj.
He received distinctions like The Jacob Gade Prize as well as the Prize of the Danish Music Critics.
1977 Niels Ullner became a member of the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra and subsequently held the position of principal cellist of the Malmo Symphony Orchestra for four decades from 1985 to 2025.
Niels Ullner has been associated as a teacher with The Danish National Academy of Music in Odense since 1990 where he was appointed a professor and Head of the String Department in 2010.
He is also chairman of the ”Chamber Music Society of 1887” in Copenhagen.
